How to Listen to Notion Pages Out Loud in Chrome

A long Notion page can be useful and still sit unread all week. A project brief, a course outline, or your own research notes might be easier to revisit as audio once you have finished working at your desk.

To listen to a Notion page with Liso, open it in Chrome on a Mac or Windows computer, copy the paragraphs you want, and paste them into a new highlight. You can also use the Chrome extension when the page lets you select ordinary text and open the browser's right-click menu.

Start with one section. Notion pages can mix prose, databases, toggles, and embedded files, so choosing the useful text first gives you a better listen than trying to narrate everything on screen.

The reliable route: copy the text into Liso

This route lets you review exactly what will become audio before you create it.

  1. Open your Notion page and find the section you want to hear.
  2. Expand any toggles containing that section. Select and copy the relevant text.
  3. Open your Liso library, sign in, and choose + New highlight.
  4. Paste the text. Check the beginning and end to make sure you captured the whole section.
  5. Add a useful title and, optionally, the Notion page URL in Source URL.
  6. Choose a voice and press Create audio.
  7. Wait for generation to finish, then press Play on the new library item.

For a project brief, a title such as "Website refresh: audience and goals" is more useful than "Untitled." If you save another section tomorrow, you will be able to tell the two apart.

Pasting a page URL alone will not import its contents. The text field needs the actual words you want to hear; the optional source link keeps a reference to the original page.

Selecting Notion text without losing half the page

Notion's editor treats paragraphs, headings, images, and other elements as blocks. Selecting a block and selecting the text inside it are different actions, which can make a familiar keyboard shortcut behave unexpectedly.

For a small passage, drag across the words you want and copy them. For several blocks, Notion supports Shift + click to select a range of blocks. Its keyboard shortcut guide explains the distinction and the available selection commands.

After pasting into Liso, check three things:

A copied table may turn into a confusing string of names and numbers. If the page includes an explanation beneath the table, that prose is usually the better listening material. Keep the original page nearby when the visual layout carries the meaning.

Use the Chrome extension for a selectable passage

The extension is convenient when you are viewing a page that exposes a normal browser text selection. Set it up once:

  1. Install the Liso Chrome extension in desktop Chrome.
  2. Sign in to Liso and open Settings.
  3. Under Chrome extension, choose Generate pairing code.
  4. Open the Liso extension, paste the code, and choose Connect.

Then return to the Notion page in Chrome. Highlight a short passage, right-click, and choose Listen with Liso if that option appears. Check your Liso library for the saved item before closing the source tab.

If Notion opens its own editing menu, or the selection does not behave like ordinary web text, use the copy-and-paste route above. Installing the extension does not add it to the separate Notion desktop application.

The capture workflow described here uses desktop Chrome on Mac or Windows. Liso is a separate service that receives the text you send to it, rather than a built-in Notion feature.

When an export makes more sense

For a long page with awkward selection, an export can give you a copy to work from.

If your workspace allows exports, open the page's ••• menu, choose Export, and select Markdown & CSV. Unzip the download and open the page's Markdown file in a text editor. Copy the useful prose into Liso, removing formatting symbols and embedded links you do not want narrated.

Notion documents the formats and restrictions in its content export guide. Liso's new-highlight form accepts pasted text; it does not upload the exported ZIP or import your whole workspace.

You rarely need to export everything for one listen. Try a few paragraphs first and use an export only if copying the section is getting in the way.

Choose a section that works as audio

Meeting decisions, project explanations, essays, and study notes can stand on their own when spoken. A calendar, dashboard, or dense database often depends on a layout that audio cannot reproduce.

For example, a project page might contain background, a timeline table, a design gallery, and a written proposal. Save the background and proposal together. Review the timeline and gallery visually when you need them.

Keep headings that explain a change of topic. Remove a table of contents if it only repeats the same headings. Start at a comfortable playback speed and listen to the first paragraph before moving on.

For work material, follow your team's rules on sending content to external tools. Liso stores the submitted text and generates audio through its service providers; details are in the privacy policy.

### Will the audio update when I edit the Notion page?

No. A Liso highlight is a saved copy of the text you submitted. If you need the revised version, create a new listen from the updated passage.

### Can it read text in screenshots or embedded PDFs?
